Why you cant lose weight…

‘I just don’t get it. I eat so well especially during the week but I’m just not losing weight “

Does this sound like you? If so this might help…

January is that time some people become fixated with calorie consumption. If you are monitoring your calories it is important to not base it on daily consumption but weekly.

I see it all the time especially with people trying to lose weight, they eat really well during the week, perhaps 250-500 calories below their total daily calorie needs, then Saturday or Sunday comes along and that one meal or one night out puts you straight back into a calorie surplus undoing all that good work you have done in the week.

Heres an example: To lose weight you have set yourself the target of eating 250kcals below your Maintenance level per day, meaning over the week you will be in a deficit of 1750kcals, losing weight, awesome.

That is until that ‘cheat meal’ washed down with a bottle (or 2) of wine makes an appearance at the weekend adding an EXTRA 2000kcals to your WEEKLY total meaning you are now in a calorie SURPLUS for the week, gaining weight, not awesome.

There is a lot more to it than just calories in and calories out but that’s for another time, for now why not try using WEEKLY Calorie Totals instead of daily.

If you are unsure how to track your calories then have a go at myfitnesspal just make sure you input all the food as accurately as possible and think about those weekly targets…

Hope this helps!
